CSBA honors School Board President Mary Helen Ybarra as 2023 Board Member of the
Year
The California School Boards Association announced CNUSD Board President Mary Helen Ybarra as the 2023 CSBA Board Member of the Year recipient. Since 2014 , Ybarra has demonstrated what it means to lead for students, the schools they attend and their community. The Golden Gavel award honors individual school board members who exemplify best practices in effective governance. Ybarra, who is passionate about equity and advocating for English learners, was chosen from among approximately 5,000 school board members making up nearly 1,000 school boards throughout the state. "Mary's commitment to all students, advocacy for the underserved and commitment to hearing student voice exemplify the difference school board members can make by supporting the conditions for student success and working to close opportunity and achievement gaps," said 2023 CSBA President Susan Markarian.

It was a historic CNUSD Organizational Meeting on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 when CNUSD School Board President Mary Ybarra was re-elected President of the Board of Trustees for 2020. Incumbent CNUSD School Board Member Mary Ybarra held her Kickoff Fundraiser for her 2024 re-election campaign on July 22, 2023 with over 200 guests in attendance. "It was an outstanding turnout with guests enjoying the excellent food, beverages, desserts, entertainment, speeches and good conversation," said Mary Ybarra. "Thank you to all our guests for their generosity and support. Also a heartfelt thank you to my campaign team for all the time and work you give to my campaign. The success of our event would not have been possible without the generosity of our host Dr Edwin & Jessica Gomez, a very special thank you to them!" said Mrs Mary Ybarra.

Incumbent School Board Member Mary Ybarra ran unopposed for CNUSD Trustee Area 3 and won re-election by default. Mrs. Ybarra will be administered the Oath of Office by California State Senator Richard Roth on December 6, 2016 at the CNUSD Organizational Board Meeting.

CNUSD School Board Member Mary Ybarra is recipient of the Latino Network's 18th Celebracion De La Mujer Award
Board Member Mrs. Mary Ybarra was recently selected as one of Latino Network's 2015 honorees in its 18th Annual Celebracion de la Mujer award program. The Latino Network is an organization that honors Latinos in leadership in the Inland Empire. This program was initiated as one of Latino Network's recognition efforts to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of Latinas in the community. Mrs. Ybarra will be honored at the celebration luncheon on Friday, March 6 at 11:30a.m. at Stratton Community Center in Riverside at 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd.

School Board Appoints New Member
The Corona-Norco Unified School District School Board appointed Mary Ybarra to fill the Board vacancy on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Mrs. Ybarra will serve the remaining term once held by Michell Skipworth whose resignation was received by the District on August 4, 2014. The remaining term ends in November 2016. Mrs. Ybarra will represent Trustee Area 3, which covers central Corona. Mrs. Ybarra has been a resident of the community for 31 years. Many of her years spent in the community have involved active participation with various community service organizations. "We welcome Mrs. Ybarra to the CNUSD family and wish her success in this new post. Mary brings with her many years of community involvement and experience. She also shares in the same vision we all have for our school district, and that is success for all students. We look forward to having her join us on this journey as we work together to ensure that CNUSD continues to provide the highest quality education to our students," said Dr Lin, Superintendent.
